Palimpsest Lite, as the name suggests, is a lite version of our comprehensive application for study, research, teaching and publishing, Palimpsest. Palimpsest Lite is designed to give users a feel for the Palimpsest environment, and allow them to decide whether it is appropriate for their needs. For this reason, you will not be able to make new artefacts once Palimpsest is already managing twenty.
Additional features of Palimpsest
The full version of Palimpsest, along with all the basic document research and hypertext functionality available in Palimpsest Lite, allows you to:
Create papers or studies from search results, webs and paths
(1) You can search, create a Web view, or create a Path of your reading in a session then save the results as a list of references in a Paper for further work.
(2) You can search, create a Web view, or create a Path of your reading in a session and then save the artefacts in which your request occurred in a Study. You can then concentrate your research in these artefacts.
Create Studies
Studies are a powerful mechanism for archiving and working with artefacts within Palimpsest.
Print Artefacts
To cater for those who will still find it necessary to ultimately print their work, Palimpsest allows you to do this with a number of options for displaying annotations and cross references.
Copy References
This is a special copy and paste function which allows you to copy a fragment of text into a paper along with a one way cross reference back to the place you copied it from.
Comments
Both Studies in the Archive and artefacts in Studies allow you to edit comments associated with them, to further aid the way you organize and work with documents..
Create and Edit Document Types
Document Types provide a powerful mechanism for modeling the appearance and structure of Documents. Palimpsest allows you to create new, and edit existing Document Types.
Stay up to date
When you register your copy of Palimpsest Lite, not only do you receive the most recent version of Palimpsest, but also a year's subscription to upgrades of the application. Three times a year a new version of the application will be available for you to download from our ftp site (or air mailed to you as an option). Each version will incorporate new functionality, as well as bug fixes and interface improvements. Registering your copy of Palimpsest Lite entitles you to support via email for the duration of your subscription.
Discounted Renewals
At the end of your year's subscription you may continue to use the application for as long as you wish. However, if you have been happy with the upgrades, you may wish to continue to receive them. To do this you can resubscribe at a 35% discount to the going rate for new subscribers.
